In 1958, brothers Arlan and Dennis Van Wyk entered the trucking business with two trucks hauling both grain and
livestock within a five state area. The business grew modestly and in 1970, Van Wyk Brothers Trucking became Van
Wyk, Inc. In the late 70's, the farm to market livestock and grain emphasis was gradually phased out and replaced
with the hauling of refrigerated food products. Since that time, temperature controlled and special needs cargos
have been the primary focus of the company.
In 1981, a new five bay, 15,000 square foot building was erected on 18 acres of land on the south edge of Sheldon, IA.
This office and maintenance complex was built to accommodate and support the fleet for years to come. In 1987,
the decision was made to expand the existing facility another 12,000 square feet in order to provide safety inspection
lanes, more maintenance space and an automated truck wash facility. The facilities today are topnotch and provide a
clean and efficient work environment for all terminal based operations. In 2006, the Highway 60 bypass was completed,
making the terminal only a half-mile from 4 Lane access.
In 1995, Van Wyk, Inc. opened an office in Waynesboro, VA.
This location serves as an eastern point with which to
service its Atlantic states customers and to staff a driver workforce in that area of the country. This addition also
brought many new accounts to the growing list of customers.
During the fall of 2007, arrangements were made to purchase certain assets of R & S Transportation of Great Bend, KS.
A maintenance facility and close proximity to a core customer were some of the benefits of the acquisition. This new
location provided a presence in the Kansas red meat region.
Today, the 2nd generation of family members along with key professional managers operate approximately 200 units and
a transportation brokerage division. At Van Wyk, Inc. their product is safe, dependable and friendly service, with an
emphasis on treating others, as they would want to be treated. Its commitment to that, coupled with their premium
Midwestern work ethic make high service levels and honest dealing with everyone a cornerstone of business.
